The Village

The 2011 information supplied for the village records 159 households and a population of 649, including 331 males and 318 females. The recorded literacy rate was 86.18%.

Agriculture and Work

The village document records 224 workers, including cultivators and agricultural labourers. Agriculture is therefore an important part of the economic and social life described in the village record.

The Mathabhanga River

The Mathabhanga River flows by the side of the village. The supplied village account notes that the river branches from the Padma River in Bangladesh near Kushtia.

Majdia

The village is described as being about 4 km from Majdia railway station. Majdia serves as a market for the village and surrounding areas and is noted for grain, fruit, vegetable and khejur gud markets.

Hari Tola

Hari Tola is described as a very old puja site where Hari and Kali puja are performed. Over time, the site has also developed a Durga Mandir and a Shiva Mandir and has become a religious and cultural centre for the surrounding area.

Gosai Bari

On the eastern side of the village is a place known as Gosai Bari. The account records an earlier association with traditional sadhus and a panchabati used as a place of spiritual practice. Although the earlier structures have disappeared, villagers continue to respect the place.
